AMERICAN CULTURE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS (ACIR)
WHY BECOME A MEMBER OF ACO – ACE FOLKLIFE CLUB by TJ Morris
Be a better professional in any career because you have training in critical thinking, ethnographic research, cultural difference in multicultural America, listening and presenting, and analyzing the bases for multiple perspectives in common and extraordinary situations.
We cater to various people on our SOCIAL NETWORK of SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS around the world.
Skillfully research, document, analyze, and present about cultures near and far, illuminating the cultural lives of present-day American groups and more foreign-seeming cultures.
Undergraduate Students may share our art, culture, and education future archives when they major or minor in Folk Studies
When one thinks of folklore one may simply think of their Grandmother or Grandfather’s old stories or ways of life.
For many around the USA we think of various patchwork quilts used in our old cabins along with our coal miner’s lanterns and stories sitting around a camp fire.
Some people think of folklore as using the imagination while some think of old wives tales and whittling?
Think folklore and do you picture ballad singing, folk songs, with musicians playing banjos, fiddles, guitars and dulcimers? Maybe someone playing on a long string or two attached to a long piece of wood on an old aluminum tub turned upside down that is playing the base part of a folk song or bluegrass spiritual song?
Folklore is so much more: urban legends, fashion, internet groups, body art, jokes, foods, holidays, and graffiti.
Today WE think of SOCIAL NETWORKS and INTERNET GROUPS who come together in kindred spirit with similar interests.
Folklore is group knowledge, art in everyday life. How do you know manners? What to wear to a party? What to sing when the birthday cake comes out? What is beautiful? You learned these things from other people and often play a role in passing them on to still others- that’s group knowledge. That’s folklore.
More Information available on open Source: WKU
Why Minor in Folk Studies? There are so many reasons! http://www.wku.edu/folkstudies/
The study of folklore is fun and develops important skills that can lead to a fruitful and satisfying career. In a nutshell, folklore is not what you think it is–it’s much bigger and better than that, and here is what you can do with it.
